California Farm Bureau Praises Gov. Gavin Newsom’s Veto of AB 616

California Farm Bureau President Jamie Johansson today applauded Gov. Gavin Newsom for vetoing Assembly Bill 616. The legislation would have allowed yearlong mail-in card-check campaigns for unionizing instead of a secret ballot election.
“The California Farm Bureau is proud of our farmers, ranchers and farm workers who stood up and spoke out against AB 616 and the threat it represented for the rights of agricultural employees to be free of undue fear and intimidation,” Johansson said. “The firm action taken today by Governor Newsom in vetoing 616 protects the sanctity of the secret ballot election. It means that strong-arm organizing tactics and coercion have no place in California agriculture.”
The California Farm Bureau works to protect family farms and ranches on behalf of nearly 32,000 members statewide and as part of a nationwide network of nearly 5.6 million Farm Bureau members.

  1. Obviously the Farm Bureau will oppose a bill the WORKERS ARE FIGHTING FOR! THE FARM BUREAU IS PRO FARM OWNERS! NOTHING MORE! SO WE CAN VOTE BY MAIL IN GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS BUT NOT NOT UNION ELECTIONS? SO ASININE!

    • Tory, your anointed governor saw something he did not like with the bill and veto. I am pretty sure you did not read AB 616 in its entirety, yet you jump to quick conclusions as always. That is what is asinine. Here is Newsom direct qoute for why he veto, “This bill contains various inconsistencies and procedural issues related to the collection and review of ballot cards,” Newsom stated in his veto message. Inconsistecies and procedural issues, Troy! IF YOU DO NOT LIKE IT, CALL YOUR GOVERNOR AND EXPRESS YOUR DISPLEASURE, YOU VOTED FOR THE MORON.

      • I SIDE WITH THE WORKERS! I GUARANTEE YOU DIDN’T READ THE WHOLE BILL! I DON’T NEED TO KNOW TOTAL HYPOCRISY! HOW CAN MAIL IN VOTES BE ALLOWED IN GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS BUT NOT UNION ELECTIONS! PURE HYPOCRISY! THIS IS THE OLD GUARD WANTING LITTLE TO CHANGE!! FARM BUREAU IS RAN BY CORRUPT LAND OWNERS THAT WILL DO ANYTHING TO PROTECT THEIR BOTTOM LINE! I WILL CONTACT NEWSOM AND PREACH ABOUT IT ON HERE. FREEDOM OF SPEECH. HE IS STILL BETTER THAN ANY REPUBLICAN EXTREMIST GOP PARTY ENDORSES

        • Repeat – “This bill contains various inconsistencies and procedural issues related to the collection and review of ballot cards.” You may side with the workers, but without those employers, businesses or those land owners, you have no job and no tax revenue. Pretty simple for most to comprehend, but I am sure you scratching your head right now. And to answer your question, I did read the bill, unlike you! Your pretentiousness is shining Troy.

          • So you think there would be no jobs without these owners? Someone would step up. WHAT INCONSISTENCIES! THE ACTUAL WORKERS ARE AGAINST AND FARM BUREAU WHO ENABLES CORRUPT FARMERS ARE FOR IT. SAYS EVERYTHING I NEED TO KNOW! THE WORKERS ARE THE UNION MEMBERS! THEY WANT IT! FARM BUREAU IS RAN BY PAST BUSINESS OWNERS THAT LOOK AFTER THEIR BUDDIES!!

  2. Troy, “what you’ve just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone who was subjected to reading it is now dumber for it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.” You truly need to check your judgment, because inhaling natures version of Camel Unfiltered in the form of the air which your governor is subjecting you to, is getting the best of you. Good luck amigo.
