Sheriff Boudreaux unveils memorial highway for fallen deputy

Sheriff Mike Boudreaux and more than 100 others gathered on September 5 at the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office to honor fallen TCSO Deputy Jeremy Meyst with the unveiling of the “Correctional Deputy Jeremy W. Meyst Memorial Highway.”

Sheriff Mike Boudreaux presents a small Memorial Highway sign to Deputy Jeremy Meyst’s mother, Judy Meyst.

Deputy Meyst was hired by the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office in 2004 as a Detention Services Officer. In 2006, he was promoted to Correctional Deputy. His last assignment was at the Sheriff’s Main Jail. Deputy Meyst was killed in a single-vehicle accident in an inmate transport van on Christmas Eve 2013.

During today’s ceremony, Sheriff Boudreaux presented Deputy Meyst’s family, including his two sons, with plaques similar to signs that now stand on Ben Maddox Way just north of the St. Johns River and just south of Ave. 328.

“We are so grateful for Deputy Meyst’s service to the people of Tulare County,” Sheriff Boudreaux said. “And we hope that if you find yourself driving by his memorial sign, you will pause to thank him, too.”

Deputy Meyst was killed in a single vehicle accident in an inmate transport van on Dec. 24, 2013 on Road 204, south of Highway 198 near the Friant Kern Canal Bridge.

He was raised in Visalia and graduated from Mt. Whitney High School in 2001.

Deputy Meyst was hired by the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office in October of 2004 as a Detention Services Officer.

In April of 2006, he was promoted to Correctional Deputy. His last assignment was at the Sheriff’s Main Jail.

Deputy Meyst is survived by his mother, Judy Meyst; his father, Gerald Meyst; his wife Sarah; and two sons, Joshua and Eric.
