A prior poster brought up local Tulare issues as some kind of apparent deflection from awful Representative Nunes. There are indeed some things to be unhappy about in Tulare. The governance of the hospital seems like a particularly sad story. But these are indeed local stories and do not bear on my “agenda” which is to defeat awful Representative Devin Nunes. And I have seen the primary results – Nunes got more than half of the votes, and he is likely to be re-elected. However, I would be remiss if I didn’t advocate for his defeat. I have made my case, and will continue to do so. Get rid of a bad politician – Devin Nunes. Vote for Andrew Janz.

As nearly as I can tell, the poster who included a link to the Mike Dunbar opinion does so to make the point that surface water is a state/local issue. It largely is, but the federal government always has a role because federal money financed the CVP back in the days of the Great Depression. The reason I bring it up in the context of awful Representative Nunes is that he demagogues the issue instead of getting anything done on the issue. I do like the reference to Mike Dunbar’s writing. I admire his forceful and dogged defense and advocacy of local interests when it comes to water. I do not always agree with his positions, but I like his writing.

I have been accused of having an agenda, a charge to which I plead – “guilty”. I think Devin Nunes is an awful Congressional Representative, and I think the voters should defeat him in the upcoming election. The way to defeat Nunes this November is to vote for his opponent Andrew Janz.
I think he is awful for a number of reasons. 1) Nunes is not open and available to his constituents. This is of course the main reason to have a Representative. Nunes’ ducking of this essential responsibility has been well documented elsewhere. 2) Nunes wastes his opportunity to represent his constituents with clownish conspiracy theories like his current “deep state” idiocy and his “environmentalists are communists” stupidity detailed here: https://www.sacbee.com/opinion/california-forum/article215786705.html 3) Nunes sabotage of legitimate congressional inquiry into the Russian influence in our elections. His House committee could find “no evidence” of Russian election sabotage despite the intel agencies and members of the Trump Administration like Wray, Sanders, Coats, and Nielsen confirming Russian attacks on American elections.
I will stop with those 3 reasons. If you want to return the Representative who fails repeatedly to Congress then no amount of reasons will change your mind. I write to those who are still deciding.

It would be interesting to see where each commenter actually lives. Since moving to Tulare 9 years ago, I was struck by how liberal the City of Visalia government is. Somewhat surprising considering their location in a very conservative area of the state. I am an unashamed Nunes fan. It was not always so. I have been impressed with his diligence in following the Constitution in his efforts to root out the corruption in the FBI and DOJ. I won’t go into the actual facts of that corruption, since it is easily available to all who care to look. The liberal left, don’t want to know and will never search for the truth. I have said this numerous times but it bears repeating. Devin Nunes has to be the cleanest guy in DC. Otherwise the Fake news weasels would have taken him out months ago. History will bear me out on this. As far as you guys constant squawking about his refusal to hold downhill style meetings. Who blames him. You know that you all see it as an opportunity to shout him down, asked loaded questions and just be general donkey bee hinds. He’s outsmarted you on this and it is driving you crazy. Kudos to Nunes for figuring you out.

Dave M, see the intentional shun of direct questions. That is because no talking point exist to address direct specific questions or concerns. See the avoidance to discuss local issues. That is due to others comments are unavailable to plagiarize (copy and paste) from other news sources. I could care less that there is the desire to vote for Janz. May the best candidate win. That is the beauty of voting and power of the people. But when one cannot address direct questions, plagiarizes other views, attacks my livelihood, and turns a blind eye to local issues it is very concerning. Barbara, let me know in November if you need assistance filling in those lined arrows with your pen. Remember it is not a coloring book at the end of the day. You are V-O-T-I-N-G. Dave M, Barbara loves propaganda, non-sourced, broad-brushed statements to make her points. She and Saul comment every time they get an opportunity with “VOTE FOR JANZ,” and will never answer questions or be open to a discussion. It requires critically thinking. Easier to regurgitate the media bias spew, and source a link to Janz bio as rebuttal. They had to be influenced by a “Vote for Janz” freeway sign, a flyer, or the SEIU newsletter to turn all red to blue. Forget balance, they want all to serve their agenda because they know what is best for you and I.
As for Saul and Barbara, are you two on the Janz Campaign payroll as Trollers, because you sure do not miss any opportunity to comment and pile on all the Anti-Nunes and Anti-Trump themed articles? I am beginning to wonder if you source your news from anything other than the ones that serve your agenda. Please ask yourself what happened to objective journalism. At one time, recording someone without consent was not admissible nor could it be published under ethical journalism, and it also can be against the law. Was it not Democrats crying foul over “my civil liberties are being violated” a couple years ago for something similar? Interesting how it fits your narrative now. Answer this; has anyone seen one article questioning where Costas District 16 representation went or his spending habits? Interesting how he gets a free pass for his do nothing representation. Interesting how not one article was reported about Ms. Hengs ad being censored by media. While you parade around for Janz, Costa very well could lose his seat to Ms Heng. Whom will be refreshing in Congress.
Barbara, your comment made on August 10th is the epitome of your asinine comments. “Local rich farmers and their cartel handpicked Nunes as their personal lobbyist.” Please provide your source? More importantly, please quit with the broad brush propaganda statements to support your narrative. Those of us in agriculture are not all rich. My farm income was once enough to support a frugal lifestyle, now it barely covers college tuition for my child. Far cry from the “big ag” theme that your side interjects to fit the anti ag articles. Just shows how ignorant the “big ag” statement is. Do some research on the average farm size in California. Ask yourself why would farmers and their so called cartels handpick a person with one vote at the national level, when this state alone has destroyed farming families, and continues to destroy multi-generational farms with their own legislation and policies? Also please respond to John’s comment which is contradicting to yours in that most of Nunes money is now funneled from outside the district, not ag as you state, but you still babble on about local rich farmers and some cartel. Appears you two need a training update on commenting policies under Janz Campaign Standard Operating Procedures.
As for Saul, he quoted, in one of many “NO NUNES….VOTE JANZ” comments, an Arax opinion articles to support his narrative. That is equivalent to the right quoting Hannity to support theirs. Draw your own opinions.
For the purpose of moving forward Barbara, correct me If I am wrong, are there not some big issues facing Tulare. Are these not the local issues which our forefathers desired most power to resonate? A hospital those of us Tulare property owners are financing through taxation, which last check, is CLOSED. Taxes at work, right! Two city council members; Carlton, who does not afford the effort in commenting on, Nunley (read Valley Voice articles), a projected million dollar plus city deficit, water, a gas tax costing everyone $800/vehicle, roads and infrastructure, homeless, fires and influences on air quality, and not an issue, but deserves a noted comment, a good fill-in Mayor asking for prayers for the city. Definitely a head scratcher…but I forgot that narrative does not fit the “for hire” narrative (VOTE FOR JANZ) and viewing things objectively does it? As someone who grew up in Tulare; the name calling, persecution, and all the negativity of the comments, plus the media biases of Trump and Nunes is tired and old. The sole focus on all the alleged wrong with absolutely no regard for any of the good from either man, is saddening. It is a true reflection how low the media has to go to in order to get readership of respected papers, diluted internet news sources, and viewership for TV ratings. Then you regurgitate in comment after comment. It is also fascinating that all the focus is on one president and 1 of 435 congress members. I am sure Janz is a good person and I will not contest he is a successful Lawyer. I did some research, your derogatory and erroneous comments date back many years. So enjoy your campaign payroll checks while it last, because my vote will whitewash yours. Your biases of excessive commenting and over embellishment of facts truly shows a side I do not want to be associated with. You want to see a great bio (Google Heng for Congress)…..how refreshing, what a beautiful story, and all uncensored! I should just move to District 16 because I am so rich, right Barbara? And what is the purpose of capitalizing “VOTE FOR JANZ” in every comment? Do you really believe that helps your message?
