I remember you working there. I was on meth and walking around Tulare telling everybody on meth God was coming we had to change our ways. I really didn’t know why I kept running to churches, carrying a bible reading it scream. Begging God to help me get clean or kill me. I met JesusGod in Tulare he saved my life. God’s plan is real for us, I thought why won’t my husband family help me, why has no one every loved me lord. I’ve been loved all my life by God. Didn’t know it. I know now. Your testimony is true. Now we have to tell the world about JesusGod and to get right with God is through Christ Jesus. Turn from our wicked ways. People don’t wanna hear it or believe it. But its true. You will be departed from God if you don’t have Jesus Christ standing before you. He died to stand before us. So give your life to God and die to this world. Eternity is with you. I remember when I met James he was a little boy I used to be at Blackstone market playing Pac-Man and he always used to come up to me and say Charlie Charlie can you give me this or can you buy me that and I always to give him what he asked for next thing I know I’d be playing basketball with him at Lincoln where all the blacks used to go out he was very amazing to me he was a good kid and never ever saw him any different but he was a loving young man I’m glad he turned his life to God great story James I love it

Great article with interesting insights into each of the candidates. It’s definitely time for a change in Ward 2; having an academic with years of teaching experience at the collegiate level provides Kristina Roper with the fresh perspective that COS needs. My wife and I have already voted for Kristina Roper and suggest everyone else do so as well.

Further fact check: College of the Sequoias is a bad faith actor, failing to pay part-time faculty in accordance with California minimum wage laws since 2001, stealing the majority of wages from the majority of faculty.
Why doesn’t COSAFA call out 25 years of fraud and embezzlement by COS administration?
California Industrial Welfare Commission Order 4-2001 (1.3.d) requires teachers either be paid for each hour worked, or be paid at least 80times minimum wage per week (over $1,200 per week, $5K per month and $60K per year) College of the Sequoias has failed to offer a legally compliant contract to COSAFA since this change, stealing several million dollars each semester.
College of the Sequoias claims they do not have to obey minimum wage laws because they are also ignoring several pay parity laws. The California Labor Commissioner says they have to pay part-time faculty for all hours worked.
COSAFA should invite in the Public Employees Relations Board and law enforcement to review the practices of COS, and seek accountability. Include complaints about misuse of funds related to the Faculty Obligation Number, %50 Law, parity and minimum wage laws.
College of the Sequoias is governed by laws, and Adjuncts have rights. Stealing wages for 25 years doesn’t just happen, the college is run by criminals.

I will vote for whomever is willing to propose getting rid of of current COS President Brent Calvin. His $428,416 salary is outrageous for a president of a PUBLIC community college when the adjunct teaching staff at COS can’t even have basic health care nor meaningful pay increases. They won’t even pay for adjunct teachers to have office hours to help students, but give the president almost half a million? The good ‘ol boys club needs to go!

COSAFA submitted a proposal to COS (“the District”) for health insurance on 5/17/2024. COSAFA’s proposal followed the state program requirements to ensure the District would be eligible for full reimbursement from the state. The District rejected the proposal on 6/24/2024. “The District is hereby rejecting COSAFA’s 5/17/24 proposal to add a new article on “Health Insurance” for part-time faculty employees.”

After the District brought up concerns that state funding might not be sustained, COSAFA submitted a modified proposal for health insurance on 7/2/2024. Our modified proposal added a clause that if the District received less than 100% reimbursement from the state, the District could reopen negotiations on health insurance. The District rejected the modified proposal on 7/15/2024. “The District is hereby rejecting COSAFA’s 7/2/24 proposal to add a new article on “Health Insurance” for part-time faculty employees.”

To this day, COSAFA has yet to receive an offer or proposal from the District regarding health insurance for part-time faculty members at COS.

Earlier this year, an attempt by Trustee Diaz to discuss researching health insurance for part-time faculty at COS was ultimately voted down by the other trustees.

COSAFA members at COS have been puzzled and disheartened that the District decided not to seek available state funds that could have provided full reimbursement for the provision of much-needed health insurance for our part-time faculty. This is one of the reasons why COSAFA has endorsed Louis Lyons for Ward 1, Kristina Roper for Ward 2, and Susie Nava for Ward 5.

COSAFA submitted a letter to the editor of the Valley Voice to correct the record on health insurance, but they decided not to publish it.
