In a build up to the General Election that seemed eternal the results appear to have matched the hype. The first Black woman to be elected Governor in the United States won in Georgia. The first openly gay man was elected Senator in New Hampshire. The first Muslim was elected Senator in Michigan. And the first Native American was elected Governor of New Mexico.
Lets not forget that the first Mexican American was elected as Governor of California.
And as usual for midterm elections, the party of the sitting president suffered big losses.
Not too far along in the evening it was clear that Democrats were going to take over the House and Senate. In another first, Representative Hakeem Jeffries will become the first Black Speaker of the House taking over for Mike Johnson in January.
