Parenting Jacob (and his older brother, although for different reasons) has been one of the greatest blessings of my life. I may not have said that when he was a toddler and we were traveling all over the state seeking diagnosis, but we’ve met some incredible people and have gained a whole new appreciation for the “simple” things in life!

Parental approaches seem to make for different outcomes for these two families with a special needs child. The Malloy's decision to actively seek to “partnership” in working with the school district and teachers by consistently engaging with them in searching and finding ways and means to improve their child’s learning environment and experience seems to work best for them and their child. Educators must remain open to learning newer ideas in ways of reaching and teaching special need students, which is a growing population in school across the nation. Parents who consistently and persistently engage proactively within school districts have a far better chance of getting everyone on the same page, which is to help their child to learn and hopefully actually enjoy learning. It isn’t easy but fighting and striving for a win-win scenario for both student/parent and teacher/school district is a well worthwhile fight parents and educators (regardless of student’s learning ability) need to take on…..together. Your child is so blessed to have you as parents and you are blessed to be his parents.
