I wasn't talking about them being sexually "educated" I was talking about them being more aware of and participating in sexual activities. Guess I should have phrased it better.

@ I was Young Once....Tweens/teens are not much more sexually mature, they are just as ignorant as ever. Sneak into a sex ed class and see what they know, it's ridiculous! There is nothing wrong with presenting this at school but parents, own it, and talk to your kids. They are as naive as ever, don't think they're not. And...you should send your Prom age kids prepared or at least counselled.

Quote: "While most of the children attending the Visalia Unified School District’s multi-school prom are not yet sexually active........",

If only that statement were totally true but my guess is that "a higher percentage" of high school students not only attending Prom but all the other school activities and weeknight and weekends are sexually active one way or the other. Participation in sexual activity occurs in many different levels and ways. Sooner or later actual intercourse will happen. Today's tweens/teens are much more sexually mature than past generations. That is a fact that many parents don't want to admit or even think about. Glad to see that VUSD isn't taking a puritanical view and actually reaching out to these kids to address and help them in this issue.

Really? Have we really sunk this low?

I remember telling my daughter that sex was/is one of the very few things in life which changes you forever. Now that was when she was getting serious with the boy who later became and still is her husband. Now it's his turn to council his kids.

I support groups working to raise awareness that teens have sex and the sex carries with it consequences that have to be met with responsibility.

I oppose sending the cultural message that Prom means sex.
