Symphony Kicks Off Season with Pops in Tulare

The newly named Sequoia Symphony Orchestra (formerly the Tulare County Symphony) will kick off its 2017-18 season with its traditional “Pops in the Park” in Zumwalt Park in Tulare on Saturday, September 9.

Begun in Tulare in 1960, the symphony changed its name this summer to better reflect its artistic growth and regional appeal.

The concert will feature family-friendly music including Americana, marches and film scores. Special guest soloist is soprano Valerie Salcedo from Fresno.

Gates open at 5pm so guests can picnic before the concert. Concert-goers can bring their own picnic and also buy quesadillas and ice cream at the park. The concert begins at 8pm.

Music director Bruce Kiesling will teach children to conduct the orchestra before the concert, and they will each get a quick chance to direct the orchestra.

Tickets are $20. Youth 12 and under are free with a paid adult. Tickets are available by calling 559 732-8600 or at the gate. Information: www.tularecountysymphony.com
