This is a very well researched and thoughtful exploration of the issues surrounding the Hanford City Council and the city administration's efforts to sell the "surplus" land originally designated for Hidden Valley Park.

What I believe is missing in this entire debate is an answer to the question of: "What do the people of Hanford want?"

According to this article we know that "at the January 2014 city council public hearing, 21 people spoke against selling the land and none spoke in favor. The city council got the message and dropped the idea, at least for a few months."

In many ways the history of the land and park doesn't matter. What matters is what the people of Hanford want and need.

It's very nice that Mayor Curry asked the neighbors of the park what they wanted (although it would be even better if we had actual documentation regarding their answers). And, it would be nice to know exactly what his questions were when he "spoke" to them. It's very easy to get the answer you want if you know how to ask the right question.

It's very clear that Hanford is way below the best practice of a city it's size with regard to the amount of recreational parks available to it's residents. I believe if you ask ALL the people of Hanford what they want they would agree that selling the land to home developers is NOT what they would want.

Why not ask them and see what they say?
